Pondering the Wonder of Life Since 2003

One decade ago today, my first boy came into the world. Ten years since he first opened those big eyes. And ever since, he has been soaking up all that he can.

Here’s an exchange from last night.

Kid: I can’t believe I’m going to be a double-digit number tomorrow. My life is just flying by.

Me: You’re telling me.

Kid: And I only have…I don’t know how many years left.

Me: Many, many years.

Kid: Or I could die tomorrow.

Me: Well, people are mortal like that. But most likely you have many, many more years.

Kid. That’s good. But you never know. Have you made my pie yet?

Sometime today, I’ll be making a key lime pie, per his request. Happy birthday to my wonderful boy. Here’s to at least 10 decades more. You are an amazing kid now, and I can’t wait to see the amazing adult I know you will be. I’m so lucky to be your mama.

  1. Happy Birthday! So crazy that he is ten. and the pie? Do you have any leftovers? No? Sigh.

Yes indeed, Frances, there are leftovers. Tell me where to meet you and I’ll bring you some.

  2. You are an amazing, wonderful, joy-filled, beautiful boy, and we love you very much!
