Valentine’s Day

heartbaskets

I may have mentioned this before, but I am not crafty. I don’t like crafts; I don’t have the patience for them. So, if you see something here that I made (aside from food or children), you can rest assured that it was pretty easy. I learned to make Danish woven heart baskets a couple years ago. They are traditionally for Christmas, but since they’re hearts, I say they work for Valentine’s Day too. I made three little heart baskets, one for each of my kids. They can be filled with little treats like candy or stickers, or used like an envelope to hold a little note. You can find instructions and a template here.

I’ve been dying to make these Melt Away cookies, so this was a good excuse.

For breakfast this morning I made these strawberry muffins. I omitted the glaze mostly because I’m lazy. Apparently I have just enough energy to make homemade muffins, but not enough to really bring it home with some glaze.

My girl child is so excited about Valentine’s Day. I don’t have the heart to tell her it’s a made up over-commercialized holiday. Is there a Scrooge character for Valentine’s Day?  Yeah, that’s me. I do like the candy, though. Happy Love Day, everybody!

My little girl is besotted with Valentines as well…on Christmas Day, she kept saying, “And Valentines is next!!!” Then she insisted that I put up Valentines “decorations” as soon as New Years was over. Then yesterday, the day after Valentines, she asked why we couldn’t celebrate Valentines every day…we don’t even do the princess thing, so this is her mega girly indulgence…ridiculous!

Tara, I love this post because I feel the exact same way, and I am not crafty at all. Luckily, I have two little boys who don’t really care!

I also really enjoy your blog, and since we live in the same area, I’m wondering if you might have an interest in a local blogger/creative meetup I’m hoping to organize. If so, would you mind emailing me? I think you would be a great fit with some of the other women I’m planning to invite. Thanks so much! :)
